Description:
Erect dioecious shrub to 4 m; glabrous except for the inflorescence; leaves linear-elliptic to narrow-elliptic, or narrow-oblong and sometimes falcate, 7-44 mm long, 1-4.5 mm wide, acute.
Heads terminal; peduncles 2-13 mm long, glabrous; involucral bracts 2 or 4, narrow-elliptic to narrow-ovate, 4-23 mm long, 1.5-4 mm wide, acute to obtuse, glabrous; male flowers 8 to 100 in each head, 3-8 mm long; female flowers 7-12 in each head, 2-4 mm long; the tube continued slightly if at all above the ovary, irregularly circumscissile around the middle of the ovary after flowering; perianth greenish-yellow, glabrous inside, bearing short fine curly hairs outside.
Mature fruit red, glabrous, succulent.
