Description:
Shrubs glabrous or pubescent with simple glandular or simple to sparingly branched non-glandular hairs, with corky bark at the stem base; leaves alternate, simple, entire (or minutely crenulate), sessile or shortly petiolate.
Flowers in terminal cymes or solitary and scattered, bisexual; calyx campanulate, 5-lobed, persistent; corolla regular or slightly zygomorphic, funnel-shaped, with a striated throat and 5 (rarely 6) narrow acute lobes; corolla lobes induplicate with inflexed margins in bud; stamens 4, in pairs of unequal length, included, inserted near the base of the corolla; anthers not cohering, 2-celled, dehiscing longitudinally; ovary 2-celled.
Fruit a smooth capsule dehiscing septifragally in 2 2-fid valves, partially enclosed by the scarcely enlarged calyx; fruiting pedicel erect; seeds subreniform, not flattened; testa reticulate.
