Description:
Variable shrub, often low dense and intricate or erect, stems usually glabrous, the smaller axes often spinous; leaves in pairs, opposite, ducussate, attached by a c. 0.3 mm long wrinkled yellowish petiole, usually elliptic to linear or lanceolate-ovate to oblanceolate-obovate, 2-10 x 0.5-3 mm, more or less concave, usually glabrous or slightly ciliate.
Flowers axillary, single or paired, 6-10 mm long, on glabrous pedicels 1-2 mm long; bracts if present soon caducous; bracteoles attached below the calyx, elliptic to linear-lanceolate, 1-4 mm long, persistent; calyx 2.5-4 mm long, outer surface glabrous or with sparse spreading hairs, inner quite woolly-tomentose; teeth about as long as the tube, ciliate, the 2 upper ones partly united; standard rather broader than long, yellow often streaked purple or red; wings obovate, shorter, yellow; keel obtuse, equalling the wings, purple; ovary stipitate, mostly pubescent, with a filiform style.
Pod obovoid, 4-5 mm long, very turgid; seed reniform, c. 2 mm long, dull, brown-black, with the aril off-centre.
