Habit: Low dense intricate shrub, the smaller branches often spinous; leaves linear-oblong to linear-lanceolate, usually 1.5-2.5 mm, rarely more than 5 mm long, 0.5-0.7 rarely to 1 mm wide, obtuse, tending to be wider at the base, flat to slightly concave, sometimes with a faint ridge underneath, usually evenly green on both sides, glabrous except for a few cilia on the margins; standard usually streaked purple or with red veins.
