No visible stalk supporting the pedicels present. Pedicels appearing to all rise from more or less the same point, so that the rachis is like a knob.

 

In Hakea laurina, H. petiolaris and H. obtusa where the inflorescence is spherical or subspherical, the rachis is still knob-like, but in this case much larger to support the large number of flowers (up to 200). It is further covered with long erect white or yellowish hairs making it much more visible than usual and having a length of up to 10 mm long.
