The group of species related to Mulga has recently been examined by Randell (1992). She reduces the name A. brachystachya to a synonym of Mulga largely on the basis that the type specimen is inadequate and that it is not possible to decide whether it is what she considers to be A. cibaria or A. aneura var. stenocarpa and is thus a confused name. The group of species remains difficult to separate in the absence of mature pods and the following should also be checked A. ramulosa, A. cyperophylla, A. cibaria, A. minyura, A. ayersiana and A. paraneura.
