Taxonomic notes: H. dactyloides is based on a Preiss specimen (Fig. 46D) from W. Aust.; the holotype in MEL, 698388, was illustrated by Kützing. It is a little known species which needs re-investigation. Harvey's illustration shows the large tetrahedrally divided tetrasporangia typical of Hymenocladia, and the holotype has typical Hymenocladia cross sectional and cystocarpic structure.
