Description:
Plants 5-15 cm to the top of the inflorescence; leaf arrangement and shape variable, lower 2 leaves basal, similar, narrowly to broadly linear or lanceolate, or the lowest leaf basal, linear or tapering, second leaf attached higher on the stem, dilated basally, narrow and tapering above; lowest leaf 1.5-8 mm (usually more than 4 mm) broad.
Male inflorescence an open spike well exserted from the leaves; female inflorescence similar or short and dense, sometimes partly concealed between the basal leaves; flowers 2-9, unisexual (plants dioecious) or rarely 1 or more bisexual, white with white or faint violet nectaries; perianth-segments 5-11 mm long, conhate at the base; nectary 1 per perianth-segment, consisting of a transverse thickened ridge, sometimes with a slight break at the middle where the segment is grooved, situated about one-third from the base of the segment; anthers purplish.
