Description:
Perennial tufted herbs with a fleshy rootstock; typically upper parts glabrous, lower parts hirsute; stems 10-80 cm long, branching below the inflorescence; leaves alternate or sometimes the lowermost opposite, 4-60 mm long, 1-4 mm wide, linear throughout or the lowermost oblanceolate, margins flat or undulate.
Inflorescence a terminal cyme; receptacle 2-3 mm long, obconical; sepals 5, 2-4 mm long, narrowly triangular, acute; corolla blue, campanulate; tube 2-3 mm long, cylindrical; lobes 5, 5-9 mm long, c. 3 times as long as the tube; stamens 5; filaments c. 1.5 mm long, rhombic, with or without protuberant shoulders; anthers c. 3 mm long; ovary 3-celled; style 4-7 mm long, 3-fid, contracted about halfway down, with 1-3 glands below each stigmatic cleft.
Capsule 3-8 mm long, obconical.

Holotype. 2 km from Mallacoota on Betka Road, P.J. Smith 100, iii.1974 (NSW). Herbae caespitosae perennes caudice succulento, typice partibus superis glabrae et infernis hirsutae; caules 10-80 cm longi, ramosi infra inflorescentiam; folia alterna vel interdum infima opposita, 4-60 mm longa, 1-4 mm lata, omnia linearia vel infima oblanceolata, marginibus planis vel undulatis; inflorescentia cyma terminalis; receptaculum 2-3 mm longum, obconicum; sepala 5, 2-4 mm longa, anguste triangularia, acuta; corolla caerulea, campanulata, tubo 2-3 mm Iongo, cylindrico, lobis 5, 5-9 mm longis, tubo circiter 3plo 1ongioribus; stamina 5, filis c. 1.5 mm longis, rhombeis, cum vel sine humeris protuberantibus, antheris c. 3 mm longis; ovarium 3-loculatum, stylo 4-7 mm longo, 3-fido, contracto ad circiter medium, glandibus 1-3 infra fissuram stigmaticam; capsula 3-8 mm longa, obconica. The epithet refers to the typical occurrence of the species near the coast.
