Description:
Slender shrub, 1-2 m high; leaves orbicular or ovate (to obovate and narrow-oblong in the eastern States), obtuse, 5-15 mm long, hairy on both surfaces, white-tomentose below, strongly penniveined and costate beneath, margins variably recurved.

Flowers in small compound heads in terminal leafy cymes, 1 head sessile in the fork between 2 stalked heads, each subtended by a whitish or grey orbicular floral leaf and surrounded by ovate silky brown bracts; floral tube white with dense silky hairs.

Capsule obovoid, brown, subglabrous; fruitlets coriaceous with a distinct ventral suture.
