Common name: Sand sida.

Sprawling shrub to c. 80 cm high, densely persistently smoothly blue-grey- to green-grey-tomentose, the branches sometimes brown or brown-tinted; leaf blades much longer than the petiole, narrow-ovate to narrow-oblong, 7-53 x 2-11 mm, obtuse to rounded at the base, bluntly serrate to serrulate with c. 8-10 teeth/cm, thinly persistently pubescent.

Flowers solitary, on peduncles 8-20 mm long or in apparent racemes on a rhachis (or short shoot with caducous leaves) 5-30 mm long with spaced single flowers subtended by stipules 0.5-1.5 mm long; calyx 3-4.5 mm long, hardly elongating in fruit, the lobes about half its length, acute to shortly acuminate; corolla 4-5 mm long, yellow.

schizocarp depressed-ovoid-pyriform, 4-4.5 mm diam., deeply grooved between the carpels, glabrous or puberulent and quickly glabrescent, the sides rugose, central apical region raised, the 5 mericarps grooved at the apex, reticulate on the sides.

Distribution:  Especially common close to temporary water, but also recorded on gibbers, dunes, limestone and elsewhere.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: probably in all months.
