Description:
Annuals; leaf-blade flat; ligule ovate-oblong.

Inflorescence a dense panicle; spikelets compressed laterally, 3-5-flowered, the rhachilla thick, rigid, not disarticulating between the florets or at the base; the short thick pedicels apparently not articulate below the spikelets which persist for a long time; glumes obtuse, unequal; lemmas cartilaginous, rounded on the back, prominently nerved.
