Common name: Rough fanflower.

Description:
Shrub to 60 cm high; stems woody, much-branched, terete, tomentose to villous; leaves sessile, linear to narrow-elliptic, acute, 0.2-8.5 cm long, 1-7 mm wide, sparsely pubescent often with villous axils; margins recurved to revolute.

Flowers sessile in leafy spikes; bracts leaf-like, ciliate, shorter than the flowers; bracteoles elliptic, 4-9 mm long, to 1.5 mm wide, flat or concave; sepals connate to form an undulate rim to 1 mm long; corolla 12-20 mm long, blue, pubescent outside and inside; lobes narrowly elliptic-oblong, 3-10 mm long, with broad wings fimbriate near the base; tube 7-10 mm long; style 6-9 mm long, pubescent; indusium suborbicular to transversely elliptic, 1.5-2 mm wide, pubescent with short scattered hairs, with white bristles around the orifice; ovary ellipsoid, c. 3 mm long, 1-celled with a short dissepiment, pubescent.

Fruit ellipsoid to obovoid, 4-6 mm long, rugose, somewhat pubescent, brown-green; endocarp hard, thick, usually 1-seeded.
