Description:
Undershrub to 50 cm high; stems erect, terete, glabrous, becoming woody; leaves sessile, oblanceolate to linear or cuneate, attenuate to a more or less decurrent base, acute to mucronate, 1-8.5 cm long, 1-9 mm wide, entire to dentate, succulent, glabrous.
Flowers sessile in leaf axils, solitary or clustered; bracteoles triangular, 0.5-2 mm long, keeled, glabrous; sepals ovate to triangular, 1.5-2 mm long, glabrous, almost free; corolla 6-17 mm long, yellow to cream or mauve, glabrous outside, pubescent inside; lobes narrow-triangular, 2.5-8 mm long, with broad undulate or ciliate wings; tube 3-9 mm long; style 6-8 mm long, glandular-pubescent; indusium oblong, c. 2 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, subglabrous, with a few glandular hairs around the orifice; ovary 5-20 mm long including a pedicel-like foot 2-9 mm long and usually a beak 1-6 mm long, 2-celled, glabrous.
Fruit ellipsoid to oblong, with a foot to 10 mm long and a beak to 6 mm, ribbed; endocarp thick, sponge-like but woody, covered by a thin skin.
