Citation: Medikus, (L.) DC., Reg. Veg. Syst. Nat. 2:92 (1821) var. hybrida.

Synonymy: Chelidonium hybridum L., Sp. Pl. 506 (1753); R. hybrida (L.)DC. var. velutino-eriocarpa Fedde, Pflanzenr. 4, 104:288 (1909)

Common name: Violet horned-poppy.

Description:
Annual with a basal rosette becoming shrubs to 40 cm high as the erect inflorescence develops, with hairy to glabrescent stems; leaves with a petiole 2-5 cm long but sessile below the flowers, 3-12 cm long, with the blade ovate, rarely obovate, deeply bipinnatisect with linear lobes.

Sepals with few bristly hairs; petals violet to almost red.

Capsule 4-8 cm long, with a few bristles towards the apex; seeds kidney-shaped, brown, with a reticulately patterned surface.

Distribution:  A genus of about 6 species native in the Mediterranean region and south-western Asia.
