Derivation: After Jean Robin, French Botanist, born 1550, and his son Vespasien, who planted the R. pseudoacacia in the Jardin des Plantes, Paris, in 1634.

Description:
Trees or shrubs with imparipinnate leaves; stipules spiny.

Flowers in drooping racemes; calyx almost 2-lipped, with 5 unequal teeth; standard orbicular, reflexed; keel incurved, subacute; upper stamen free, other 9 united in an open tube; stigma terminal; ovary with many ovules.

Pod long, compressed, glabrous, the upper suture narrowly winged; seeds exarillate.

Distribution:  About 20 species in North America.
