Description:
Perennial herbs with tufted stems ascending from long fine horizontal underground roots; leaves imparipinnate, stipulate.
Inflorescence terminal, if more than one on the stem then leaf-opposed, 1- to several-flowered; bract and bracteoles small; calyx with 5 teeth scarcely differentiated into 2 lips, narrowed basally into a solid receptacle tube, shorter than or nearly equal to the calyx tube; petals on slender claws; stamens all joined in a sheath open adaxially; anthers uniform, dorsifixed; ovary shortly stipitate, glabrous, several-ovulate; style upturned, with a terminal stigma.
Pod rounded-oblong, flattened; seed with a rim-aril only.
