Description:
Stems to 1 m tall, branched to a diffuse panicle; leaves narrow-linear to acicular, basal ones to 4 cm long, all deciduous with age.
Spikes apically rounded, 1.2-1.5 cm diam., rarely elongated to c. 3 cm, purplish to grey-pink; bract and bracteoles puberulent; perianth-segments with dorsal straight hairs leaving apices of the outer segments visible, inner ones woolly-bearded inside; stamens mostly all perfect, occasionally 1 or 2 sterile, cup flat with intervening ciliate to fimbriate lobes; ovary hairy at the summit; style central.
