Description:
Much-branched undershrub to 75 cm tall, rarely herbaceous, villous with crisped cream to yellowish rough-walled hairs; leaves oblong-lanceolate, 1-4.5 X 0.2-0.7 cm, becoming glabrescent.
Spikes numerous, subconical to narrow-cylindrical, to 9 X 1.8 cm, flowers loosely arranged; bract and bracteoles acuminate, papery, shining; perianth initially a deep reddish-purple; perianth-segments outside with basal silky hairs exceeding apices by brush-like tufts, usually glabrous within; stamens all fertile, cup free; ovary glabrous; style central, very thin.
