Citation: L., Sp. Pl. 702 (1753).

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: Annual milkwort.

Description:
Erect annual, 40-260 cm tall; stems few, simple or sparsely branched; lower leaves 5-30 cm long, lanceolate, long-acuminate, sometimes deciduous; stem leaves 5-25 cm long, linear-lanceolate, long-acuminate.

Inflorescence racemose; bracts shorter than the pedicels, deciduous in bud; flowers whitish, c. 8 mm long; wing sepals lanceolate-ovate, c. 6-7 mm long, acuminate, with 3 distinct greenish nerves, their branches not anastomosing; keel c. 4 mm long, crested with 2 much-branched appendages; lateral petals as long as the keel; stamens 8; filaments united for about three-quarters of their length.

Capsule obovate, emarginate, broadly winged; seeds oblong, hairy.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: SE.   Vic.   native of the Mediterranean region.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: Oct. — Dec.
