Description:
Erect slender annual 3-30 cm high, simple or with erect to ascending branches produced throughout the length of the stem, glandular and eglandular-puberulent apart from the flowers; leaves widely spaced throughout, entire or obscurely toothed, at the basal 1 or 2 nodes opposite, narrow-elliptic to obovate, 3-12 x 1.5-3 mm, petiolate, higher up alternate, narrow-linear, 3-20 x 0.2-1.5 mm.

Flowers 2-7 in terminal or axillary long-pedunculate spikes; bracts narrow-linear, as long as or longer than the flower, fused to the pedicel and the base of the calyx; pedicel c. 0.5-1 mm long; calyx c. 3 mm long, 5-ribbed at the apex, with scattered glandular hairs, shortly 2-lipped, with each lip almost entire, with eglandular-ciliolate margins; corolla c. 4 mm long, yellow, glabrous outside, the lobes c. 0.7 mm long, orange-tipped in dried specimens.

Capsule broad-ellipsoid, c. 3 mm long.

Distribution:  Recorded in cultivated ground, with fine herbage on the side of a vehicular track, and scattered in Eucalyptus scrub.

  Native to South Africa.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: Sept. — Oct.
