Description:
Annual herb 3-22 cm high; stems ascending or erect, usually sparsely branched, wiry, red-brown, slightly cobwebby or glabrescent; basal leaves few, elliptical to oblanceolate, 1-4 cm long, more or less cobwebby, soon withering; cauline leaves lanceolate, amplexicaul, acute, up to 5.5 cm long, to 7 mm wide, cobwebby above, almost woolly below.

Peduncles 1-4 cm long, wiry, erect, naked, glabrous; capitula few in loose inflorescences, rarely solitary; involucres hemispherical, 7-10 mm diam., 6-7 mm long: bract laminae broadly ovate, acute, stramineous, often bluish-green tinted distally, finely erose-ciliate, smooth to slightly wrinkled; intermediate bracts 5-6 mm long, with curved narrow-linear glandular claws; innermost bracts with spathulate herbaceous claws surrounded by scarious margins, becoming thickened, cartilaginous and adhering at the base; all florets similar, tubular, bisexual, 5-merous, fertile; corolla symmetrical, bright-yellow, exceeding the involucre, the outermost slightly overhanging.

Achenes c. 1.5 mm long, sparsely papillate; pappus bristles 6-14, shortly plumose, very shortly connate.

Distribution:  Occurs on gibber plains and stony slopes.

Conservation status: native
