Description:
Stout erect perennial or biennial herbs, glabrous or pubescent, usually with tap-roots; stems branched; leaves pinnate, rarely simple, petiolate; leaflets broad, serrate to deeply lobed; petioles sheathing.
Umbels pedunculate, terminal and lateral, compound; involucre usually absent; rays rather few, spreading-ascending; involucel usually absent; pedicels slender, spreading-ascending; sepals minute or absent; petals yellow or red, oval, with a narrower inrolled apex; styles short, spreading; stylopodium depressed-conical.
Fruit broad-oval to obovate; strongly dorsally flattened; carpophore 2-partite to the base; mericarps with filiform dorsal and intermediate ribs; lateral ribs winged, with the vascular bundles near the outer edge of the wing; vittae solitary between the ribs, 2-4 at the commissure.
