Description:
Shrub to 1 m high and wide, glabrous apart from bands of antrorsely curved white eglandular hairs, on the branches opposite and decurrent from between leaf bases, on the rhachises and pedicels alternate; leaves connected across the node by a ridge, sessile, linear to ovate-linear, 1-7.5 cm x 0.5-5 mm, the margin entire or sparsely serrate, recurved narrow-acute.
Inflorescences long axillary racemes, together forming a corymb at each branch apex; bracts much shorter than the leaves, narrow-ovate, 2-9 mm long; pedicels longer than the bracts in flower, 7-15 mm long in fruit; sepals 4, narrow-elliptic, 3-5 mm long, free almost to the base; corolla white, at least sometimes purple in the centre, with the tube sparsely pubescent inside, the lobes 4, 5-8 mm long, obtuse or rounded, with the upper lobe broader and purple-striated; stamens with filaments broad and flat in the basal half, almost as long as the corolla lobes, the anthers broad, 1-1.4 mm long.
capsule compressed, in lateral view transversely broad-elliptic, c. 3 x 3.5 mm, shallowly emarginate, ribbed down the centre line of each valve, broadly grooved between the valves, with a persistent style c. 4 mm long.
