Description:
Mostly erect, to 4 m high; joints orbicular to obovate, flattened, generally to 22 cm long but often continuing to extend at the apex and becoming 1 m long and oblong or lanceolate; leaves deciduous; areoles remote, spines 1-6, white to pale-yellow or brownish, to 4 cm long.
Flowers 7-8 cm, yellow to red.
fruits purple-red, 4-7 cm long.
