Description:
Perennial shrublets, monoecious, up to 25 cm high, branched mainly from a short stem, with branches vaguely quadrangular to terete, more or less hairy; leaves sessile, linear, rarely lanceolate, 8-30 x 1.5-4 mm, acute with the apex often uncinate, often with scattered hairs along the scarcely recurved margin; stipules with 2 or 3 larger lobes.
Inflorescence with 10-25 flowers basally fused into a spherical terminal head on a peduncle up to 4 cm long and longer than the subtending leaves; calyx lobes linear-triangular, with few marginal cilia.
Fruit dehiscing by a horizontal abscission so as to leave the circular remains of each fruit; seeds triangular in section, smooth.
