Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: Tree tobacco, tobacco bush.

Description:
Erect often spindly treelike shrub to 6 m high; leaves and stems glabrous except for a few non-glandular hairs on new growth; leaves glaucous, with petioles to 6 rarely 12 cm long and usually terete; lamina to 13 rarely 23 cm long, ovate or elliptic, occasionally narrowly or widely so.

Inflorescence a short dense terminal panicle with sparsely scattered non-glandular hairs; calyx usually 7-14 mm long; corolla tube 20-40 mm long, 3-6 mm wide at the top of the calyx; limb 8-13 mm diam., lobes obtuse; all 5 stamens level or nearly so.

Capsule 7-13 mm long, ellipsoid to ovoid-ellipsoid or widely so, occasionally suborbicular; seeds 0.5-0.9 mm long, reniform or angled; testa honeycombed or wrinkled.

Distribution:  Grows in a variety of open and disturbed habitats.

S.Aust.: LE, NU, GT, FR, EA, EP, NL, MU, YP, SL, KI, SE.   All mainland States.   Native to the Argentine.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: throughout the year.
