Derivation: Greek nerion, the oleander.

Description:
Shrubs or small trees, glabrous; latex milky; leaves petiolate, opposite or in whorls of 3 or 4.

Flowers pedicellate in terminal cymes; corolla with a cylindrical tube and spreading lobes; laciniate scales present at the base of each lobe; anthers terminally appendaged.

Fruit of 2 diverging follicles.

Distribution:  3 species from the Mediterranean and Asia.
