Citation: L., Sp. Pl. 384 (1753).

Derivation: The Greek name for the manna ash, Fraxinus ornus.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Description:
Deciduous trees; leaves 3-pinnate; the petiole expanded at the base; leaflets opposite, toothed, petiolulate; bracts minute and early deciduous or 0; panicles rather broad and loose; sepals 5 or 6, fused towards the base, short.

Petals 5 or 6, free, linear-oblanceolate, spreading; filaments forming a narrow 10- or 20- or 24-toothed tube; anthers 10 or 12, inserted in the mouth of the staminal tube; disk annular; ovary 3-6-celled, with 2 superposed ovules in each cell; stigma capitate.

Drupe fleshy, with a bony endocarp; seeds 1 in each of 1-5 cells, wingless; endosperm usually present.

Distribution:  2-15 species mainly in the Old World tropics.
