Synonymy: H. macrocalyx Radlk., Act. Congr. lnt. Bot., Amsterdam 1877:49 (1879). Common name: Bullock-bush, rosewood, boonaree, cattle-bush.

Biology: Often used as a fodder tree under drought conditions. Toxic when in flower. H. oleifolium suckers from the root system and so many plants are genetically identical to those growing nearby. Taxonomic notes: H. oleifolium is a morphologically variable species; three varieties have been recognised, two of which occur in S.Aust.; some intergradation occurs between these varieties.
