Description:
Sparingly to much-branched annual herbs 2-18 cm tall and up to 10 cm diam., with several ascending stems; stems and branches sometimes purple-tinged, with a moderately dense vestiture of loose woolly hairs and sessile glandular hairs, becoming less dense with age; leaves narrowly oblanceolate, almost linear, with recurved margins, an acute to apiculate apex, and a broadly sessile base, mostly 1-3 cm long, 1-2 mm broad, with a vestiture like that of the stems, more dense on the underside.

Capitula several in tight clusters terminating the stems and branches, sessile, campanulate, 4-5 mm long; involucral bracts almost all equal in length, with long-ciliate lanceolate scarious stramineous to yellow laminae, the cilia a bright golden-yellow and in length 2 or 3 times the width of the laminae; outer bracts wholly hyaline; inner bracts equal or subequal to the florets, with linear subherbaceous glandular-pubescent claws with colourless hyaline margins, the claws of the innermost bracts equal in length to the laminae.

Achenes obovoid-ellipsoid, slightly compressed glabrous, smooth; pappus bristle 1 on bisexual florets, barbellate or entire in the lower third, finely plumose and a bright golden-yellow distally, lacking on female florets.

Distribution:  On various sites but usually in sand; apparently uncommon. Conservation status: native Flowering time: Aug. — Oct.
