Description:
Erect annual herb 20-50 cm tall, with a single main stem; stem and branches densely scabrous with coarse septate glandular hairs and minute sessile glandular hairs, glabrescent below; leaves more or less linear but broadened towards the base, with recurved to revolute margins sometimes revealing only the mid-vein on the underside, with a narrowly acute apex and half-clasping base, mostly 2.5-5 cm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, glandular-scabrid like the axes.

Capitula 3-20 in a compound leafy corymb, each subtended by a leafy axis ending in a small cluster of leaves, more or less hemispherical (the involucral bracts oblique to patent during flowering, finally becoming patent to reflexed), c. 20 mm long and 30-45 mm diam.; involucral bracts 7-9-seriate, the intermediate ones longest; outermost bracts wholly scarious, colourless to pale-stramineous; intermediate bracts up to 15 mm long and 7-8 mm longer than the florets, for most of their length scarious, opaque, white (often tinged pink in bud), narrowly oblong-elliptic, acute to apiculate, with short linear herbaceous claws; florets numerous, all bisexual; style branches capitate, papillose.

Achenes oblong, square in cross-section, not compressed, glabrous, minutely sculptured with narrowly elliptical pits, brown; pappus bristles 24-25, slightly connate at the base and falling in groups, barbellate from the base, slightly more strongly so at the apex, white.

Distribution:  Occurs on open sites in mallee and shrubland, in calcareous sandy soil.
