Synonymy: H. digyna sensu Orch., Bull. Auckland Inst. Mus. 10:135 (1975), S. Aust. plants only, auct. non Labill.; H. mucronata sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 430 (1928), auct. non Benth.

Common name: Prickly raspwort.

Perennial herbs 10-30 cm tall; rootstock stoloniferous; stems weakly ribbed, with sparse conical or curved 1-celled hairs 0.05-0.1 mm long; leaves alternate, sessile, linear, 5-20 mm long, 1-2 mm wide; margins entire or very shortly 1-2-toothed, sparsely scabrous.

Inflorescence composed of dichasia of up to 5 flowers; lateral inflorescences in the axils of the upper leaves; primary bracts green, indistinguishable from the upper leaves; bracteoles straw-coloured, linear, 1.2-1.4 mm long, deciduous; flowers predominantly 3-merous, on pedicels 0.1-0.2 mm long; sepals deltoid, 0.7-0.8 mm long, scabrous; petals greenish-yellow tipped red, c. 2 mm long; stamens 6; anthers linear-oblong, 1.1-1.5 mm long; style 1, conical, c. 0.7 mm long; stigma white, fimbriate; ovary obconical, c. 0.5 mm long, densely scabrous; 1-locular.

Fruits usually abortive; if present, irregularly pear-shaped with the broadest end proximally, 1.3-1.5 mm long.
