Common name: Beaked hakea, turkey gobblers, kidney bush.

Description:
Spreading or rounded shrub 1-5 m high; branchlets persistently appressed-white-pubescent; leaves ascending, 2-15 cm X 0.8-1.7 mm, glabrous, mid-green, leaving a broad-triangular scar, mucro 1.5-2.8 mm long; involucral-bracts woolly-white-tomentose at apex.

Inflorescence on umbel of 1-10 white flowers; rhachis 1-1.2 mm long, brown-tomentose; pedicel 2.5-6.5 mm long; perianth 3.5-5.5 mm long, limb 1-1.2 mm long; anthers 0.3-0.45 mm long; gland U-shaped, 0.4-0.6 mm long laterally, with 2 large lateral teeth, terminated by 2 smaller teeth; pistil 7.8-11.5 mm long; style permanently deflexed; pollen-presenter an undulate oblique disc 0.5-0.7 mm long, with a central cone O. 15-0.3 mm high.

Fruit 2.2 X 4.5 cm long, compressed laterally, coarsely wrinkled, in median view 1.6-2.3 cm wide, in lateral view 1.8-3.2 cm wide, with a reflexed narrow beak 7-14 mm long, 4-12 mm wide including horns, valves remaining fused towards the base, seed cavity flanked on one side by 2 or 3 broad layers of wood, the outer layer white; seed curved at the base and apex, 13-22 X 5-10 mm, body obovate, 6-10 mm long, rugose, with a ridge half to three-quarters the length of the body, wing decurrent only on one side of the body to halfway down, black with a lighter apex.
