Description:
Greyish to green branched sparsely to moderately densely papillose annuals usually 5-20 cm high; with terete branches to c. 30 cm long; leaves ovate to oblanceolate, somewhat fleshy, 20-30 X 3-11 mm.
Flowers solitary, terminal or in the forks of the branches, on peduncles 1-10 mm long; perianth-segments purple or pink inside (?rarely white), 4-10 mm long, lengthening in fruit, free for at least two-thirds of their length, lanceolate-acuminate; stamens numerous, evenly distributed around the ovary; filaments dilated at the base, terete above, papillose.
Capsule depressed-globose, with 2-fid valves, 4-7 mm diam.; seeds comma-shaped, laterally expanded, ridged on each side, verrucose.
