Description:
Perennial herbs with prostrate branches, opposite leaves and a swollen taproot.

Flowers small, bisexual, in dense sessile axillary clusters; bracts and bracteoles small; perianth-segments 5, acute, scarious, white; stamens 5, united, attached to the perianth; anthers small, 2-celled; style short.

Fruit indehiscent; seed single.

Distribution:  3 species from Central America.
