Description:
Perennial herb, usually stoloniferous, with a branched woody rootstock; stems terete, prostrate to ascending, to 20 cm long, pubescent; leaves basal, forming an ascending rosette, obovate to narrowly oblanceolate, tapering into an indistinct petiole at the base, obtuse to subacute, 2-6, rarely to 12 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, crenate to dentate, densely cobwebby-villous below, glabrescent above.

Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, forming a leafy terminal raceme; peduncles 5-10 cm long, erect, not articulated, villous; bracteoles linear, 5-12 mm long; sepals narrowly oblong or elliptic to oblong-ovate, 4-5 mm long, cobwebby-villous, adnate to the ovary for three-quarters of its length; corolla 12-14 cm long, yellow, pubescent outside and towards the base inside, with an indistinct pocket about half the length of the ovary; wings equal; auricles indistinct; anthers 1-2 mm long; style 3-4 mm long, slightly geniculate, villous; indusium broadly oblong, c. 1 mm long and c. 2 mm wide, villous, slightly concave with an almost straight orifice beset with prominent white bristles; ovary villous; dissepiment about half the length of the ovary, with ovules in 2 rows.

Capsule ovoid, c. 10 mm long, c. 8 mm wide, villous with a prominent glabrous beak; valves often 2-fid at the apex; seeds flat, elliptic, c. 3 mm long, c. 2 mm wide, yellow-brown, aculeate, with a distinct rim and a vestigial wing.

Taxonomic notes: Goodenia blackiana Carolin, sp.nov. Herba prostrata decumbens vel ascendens plerumque stolonibus. Caules usque 20 cm longi. Folia rosulata et caulina ohorata vel anguste obovata 2-6 (12)cm 1onga 5-15 mm lata crenato-dentata insidentia pagine inferlore dense gossypine tomenta. Flores in racemis foliosis dispositi vel solitarii in axillis superioribus: bracteolae 2: pedunculus non articulatus. Sepala anguste oblonga oblongo-ovata vel anguste-elliptica 4-5 mm longa. Corolla flava pubescens extus atque ennatiis intus; sinus alarum obtusus. Indusium transverse oblongum 1 mm x 2 mm concavum. Semina plana elliptica 3 mm longa et ora incrassata et ala minuta. Haec species in pascuis et sylvis Australiae Meridionalis Victoriaeque habitat. Holotype:. Teddy Bears Gap, Grampians, T. & J. Whaite 1470, 24.x.1953 (NSW 76652). Named for J. Black, author of Fl. S. Aust.
