Goodenia affinis

Citation: Vriese, Nat. Verh. Holl. Maats. Wel. Haarlem 2:137 (1854).

Synonymy: Scaevola geniculata Vriese in Lehm., Pl. Preiss. 1:404 (1845); Goodenia geniculata R. Br. var. eriophylla Benth., Fl. Aust. 4:63 (1868).

Common name: Mallee goodenia, silver goodenia.

Description:
Tufted decumbent perennial herb with an erect branched rootstock; leaves all basal, forming an ascending rosette, ovate to narrowly ovate-oblong, attenuate at the base, subacute, 2-9 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, dentate to crenulate, villous with simple and stellate non-glandular hairs.

Flowers solitary, axillary; peduncles 2-6 cm long, erect, pubescent, often geniculate at the bracteoles; bracteoles linear, 4-8 mm long, 1-2 mm wide; sepals narrowly oblong, 2-3 mm long, pubescent, adnate to the ovary for three-quarters of its length; corolla 12-15 mm long, yellow, pubescent outside, glabrous inside, with a vestigial pocket; wings more or less equal; auricles distinct, hardly barbellate; anthers c. 2 mm long; style c. 6 mm long, almost straight, glabrous; indusium broadly depressed-ovate, 2-3 mm long, pilose, with an almost straight orifice.

Capsule ellipsoid, c. 10 mm long, pubescent with a glabrous beak; valves 2-fid; seeds flat, broad-elliptic, 2.5-3 mm long, smooth, pale-brown, with a thickened rim and a narrow wing.
