This species has in the past been confused with G. ("Haloragis") teucrioides which differs in having large green bracteoles almost concealing the ovary, 8 large stamens, a more stiffly erect habit, a more condensed inflorescence and the lowermost flowers of the inflorescence opposite. G. teucrioides is not found west of Melbourne.
