Description:
Annual to perennial herbs to 25 cm high, branched mainly from the basal rosette, leaves sessile to petiolate, scarcely connate in pairs.
Sepals scarcely connate, with 5 lobes; corolla cup-shaped or an open bell-shape, with 5 lobes; stamens with filaments scarcely fused to the corolla tube; anthers hardly twisted after the pollen is shed; ovary bicarpellary, 1-celled, gradually tapering into 2 sessile terminal stigmas.
Capsule often exceeding the persistent calyx and corolla.
