Derivation: Greek gastêr, belly; lobos, pod; alluding to the ovoid pod.

Description:
Shrubs; leaves on very short petioles, verticillate or Opposite, simple, entire, usually rigid; stipules mostly setaceous.

Flowers terminal or axillary, yellow; bracts usually deciduous; calyx 5-lobed, the upper 2 lobes usually broader and united higher up; petals clawed; standard orbicular or reniform, emarginate, longer than the wings and keel; stamens free; ovary stipitate or sessile, with 2 ovules; style incurved, filiform.

Pod ovoid or nearly globular, turgid, coriaceous. Limited to W.Aust., with about 45 species; 1 is shared with N.T. and Qld. Poison-peas.
