Description:
Multi- or single-stemmed trees to 10 m high; bark smooth above, shedding in strips, with fibrous bark on the lower trunk and sometimes on larger branches; cotyledons shallowly notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, petiolate, narrow-oblong to ovate-lanceolate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 15-30 mm long, lanceolate, dull, light-green, 8-11 x 2.5-3.5 cm, veins faint.

Flowers in umbels of 7-11 in the axils of the leaves; buds on pedicels 2-5 mm long, cylindrical or conical-cylindrical, 9-12 x 5-6 mm; operculum hemispherical, sometimes umbonate, striate, usually shorter than the smooth cylindrical hypanthium; flowers white or cream-coloured; anthers all fertile, ovate.

Fruits cylindrical to campanulate, usually smooth, with a thin rim, disk descending, 7-12 x 6-9 mm; valves triangular, with a narrow point level with or rarely shortly exserted beyond the rim; seeds red-brown, glossy, mostly ellipsoid, reticulate or wrinkled.
