Citation: Boomsma, J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 1:363 (1979).

Synonymy: E. bicolor Cunn. ex Hook. var. xanthophylla sensu Blakely, Key Eucalypts 232 (1934), partly; E. intertexta R.T. Baker var. fruticosa sensu Boomsma, Native trees S. Aust. 128 (1972).

Common name: Northern ranges box.

Multi- or less often single-stemmed trees to 9 m high; bark rough, fibrous, grey to greyish-brown, shedding in broad flakes on upper parts to expose a smooth grey layer; cotyledons notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, petiolate, narrow-elliptic to ovate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 15-25 mm long, broad-lanceolate to ovate, glossy, mid-green, with few oil glands, 5-12 x 1.5-3.5 cm.

Flowers in terminal or axillary clusters; buds on pedicels 2-3 mm long, obovoid, smooth, 3-5 x 2-4 mm; operculum short, broadly conical to hemispherical, usually much shorter than the hypanthium; flowers off-white; anthers all fertile, globular-reniform.

Fruits subglobular-truncate to hemispherical, thick-walled, often slightly constricted at the orifice, with rim narrow and descending disk, 4-5 x 4-6 mm; valves small, deeply enclosed; seeds greyish-brown, flat-convex, ovoid-acute, reticulate.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: NW.   W.Aust.; N.T. On slope.

Taxonomic notes: This species is distinguished from E. intertexta by having broader glossy green leaves which remain glossy but become yellowish and rigid on drying whereas E. intertexta leaves are narrower, dull and bluish-green, drying dull, bluish-green and flexible.
