Synonymy: E. dumosa sensu Boomsma, Native trees S. Aust. 104 (1972), partly; E. pileata sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 629 (1952), partly.

Common name: Murraylands mallee, blue (or blue-leaved) mallee.

Description:
Multi-stemmed trees to c. 6 m tall; bark smooth above, grey to orange-brown, shedding in strips, grey-brown and fibrous towards the base; cotyledons shallowly notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, petiolate, elliptic to ovate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 15-25 mm long, broad-lanceolate, dull, blue-green to glaucous, 10-16 x 2-3 cm.

Flowers in umbels of 7-11 in the axils of the leaves; buds subsessile or on pedicels to 3 mm long, obovoid, fibbed, 8-13 x 5-8 mm; operculum hemispherical to broadly conical, shorter than the hypanthium; flowers cream-coloured; anthers all fertile, oblong to obovate.

Fruits cylindrical to obconical, ribbed or wrinkled, with disk descending, 7-10 x 7-9 mm; valves triangular, with narrow points at or just exserted beyond the rim; seeds red-brown, glossy, shallowly reticulate.
