Description:
Intricate shrub 1-1.5 m tall; branches prominently tuberculate, completely clothed in a grey appressed tomentum; leaves opposite or subopposite, clustered, widely depressed-ovate to orbicular, 7.5-19 x 7.5-16 mm, lamina thick and rigid, folded, apex acute, recurved, margins entire, surfaces often tuberculate, clothed in a dense grey appressed tomentum.

Flowers 1 per axil; pedicel 6-13 mm long, straight or curved, grey-tomentose; sepals imbricate, purple, obovate to oblanceolate, 9.3-17 x 3.5-10 mm, obtuse but mucronate, outside surface eglandular-pubescent, inside surface pubescent with glandular and eglandular hairs, the eglandular hairs often restricted to the margins and towards the apex; corolla 25-30 mm long, lilac to purple or rarely white, unspotted, densely pubescent outside, inside of tube villous to woolly, lobes glabrous, obtuse; stamens included, filaments with villous hairs towards the base, anthers glabrous; ovary villous, style pilose.

Fruit dry, ovoid, 7-8 x 3-4 mm, villous.

Distribution:  Common on stony soils.
