Description:
Intricate or divaricate shrub 0.3-2.5 m high; branches sparsely tuberculate or non-tuberculate, pubescent to woolly rarely glandular-puberulent; leaves alternate, linear to oblanceolate to ovate, 4-45 x 2-18 mm, acute to obtuse, margins entire, glabrous or very sparsely hairy, the hairs eglandular or glandular.

Flowers 1 per axil; pedicel 10-25 mm long, sigmoidly curved, glabrous; sepals imbricate, green, ovate, 4-9.5 x 2.5-5 mm, acuminate, outside surface glabrous but margins irregularly ciliate, inside surface pubescent with short glandular and longer eglandular hairs; corolla 25-35 mm long, very variable in colour from yellow to pink or carmine, prominently spotted on inside of lobes and in the tube or rarely unspotted, outside surface glabrous, inside of tube villous with longer scattered arachnoid hairs in distal part and on lobes, lobes acute; stamens exserted, glabrous; ovary and style glabrous or rarely with scattered hairs on the style.

Fruit dry, ovoid to subglobular, 11-18 x 10-17 mm, glabrous.--Stenochilus maculatus Ker Gawler, Edwards' Bol. Reg. 8:t. 647 (1822).
