Description:
Tangled or divaricate shrub 0.5-1.5 m tall; branches often spinescent, non-tuberculate, glabrous except for a band of stellate hairs above the leaf axil or rarely stellate-pubescent; leaves alternate, oblong to linear-oblanceolate, 4.5-34 x 1-4 mm, obtuse but with a small mucro, entire, glabrous or obscurely glandular-puberulent at least on the adaxial surface, occasionally with a few scattered stellate hairs along the margins in the basal part.
Flowers solitary, sessile; sepals 4, imbricate, green, lanceolate, 3.5-6.5 x 0.8-2 mm, acuminate, outside surface glabrous or glandular-puberulent, inside surface sparsely to densely clothed with short glandular, short and long branched and simple eglandular hairs; corolla 10-20 mm long, mauve to pinkish-lilac, rarely white, tube and lower lobes spotted purple inside, outside surface densely stellate-pubescent, inside of tube and lobes pubescent with a villous band extending down the tube below the lower medial lobe; stamens included, filaments with villous bases, glabrous above, anthers glabrous; ovary glabrous; style pilose, hairs branched and unbranched.
Fruit dry, ovoid-conical, 5-9 x 2-4.5 mm, beaked and splitting into 4 segments at the apex, glabrous.
