Description:
Small shrubs, tomentose all over with dendritic or stellate hairs; leaves alternate, sessile, entire, fleshy, the floral ones often clustered.
Flowers solitary or in triads, bisexual; perianth 5-lobed; stamens 5; fruiting perianth woody and becoming embedded in the woody branch axis; spines initially 5, arising from the base of the perianth lobes but in E. spinosa fusing irregularly; seed and radicle erect; perisperm central.
Infructescence persistent.
