Description:
Low broad grey annual, stellate-pubescent and with stinging longer hairs, heavily scented, monoecious; leaves alternate.

Male flowers in terminal cymes; calyx with 5 or 6 segments, petals absent; stamens 6 or 7; female flowers 1-3 in lower axils without a calyx or petals; ovary with 4 or 5 glands at the base, l-celled, with 1 ovule; style undivided.

Capsule obovate-oblong, 2-valved; embryo linear; cotyledons longer and broader than the radicle.

Distribution:  1 North American species.
