Dodonaea baueri

Citation: Endl., Enum. Pl.Hügel 13 (1837).

Synonymy: D. deflexa F. Muell., Trans. Phil. Soc. Vic. 1:8 (1855).

Common name: Crinkled hop-bush.

Description:
Dioecious spreading or sometimes prostrate shrub, to 1 m high; leaves simple, petiolate, obovate, rarely broad-oblong or orbicular, truncate or rounded and irregularly 3- rarely 6-toothed at the apex, 0.5-1.8 x 0.3-1 cm, viscous, with flat glands, glabrous to sparsely puberulent, margin slightly recurved, undulate, unevenly dentate or repand; petiole 0.5-1.5 mm long.

Flowers solitary or rarely 2 together, axillary; pedicels 2-3.2 mm long; sepals 4 or 5, ovate, acute, 1.6-2.8 mm long, persistent; stamens 8; ovary glabrous.

Capsule 3-5-angled, usually 4-angled, transverse-oblong in lateral view, 4-5 x 5.5-10 mm, sparsely pubescent, septifragaily dehiscent, appendages sometimes present, 0.5-1 mm broad, lobe-like or rarely narrow wings above the middle of the capsule only.

Distribution:  Grows on rocky hillsides and exposed sites on mountain ridges and in red-brown sandy loams in mallee scrub. It is often associated with Eucalyptus porosa, E. oleosa, Melaleuca lanceolata and M. uncinata.

Conservation status: native
